This 350-hour program is available in full-time and part-time formats to support working professionals in the refrigeration and air conditioning trade. Delivered through instructor-led, theory-focused training, the course aligns with the Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS) for Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Technicians and prepares candidates to confidently challenge the Red Seal exam.
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technicians are skilled trades professionals responsible for installing, maintaining, servicing, and troubleshooting refrigeration, air conditioning, heat pump, and climate-control systems used in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. Their work plays a critical role in food preservation, building comfort, industrial processes, and energy efficiency.
These technicians interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and system schematics to plan installations and diagnose equipment performance issues. They apply in-depth knowledge of thermodynamics, electrical systems, controls, and refrigerants to ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental and safety regulations. Precision, problem-solving skills, and adherence to regulatory standards are essential in this trade.
In addition to system installation and maintenance, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Technicians perform testing, commissioning, and fault diagnosis on mechanical and electrical components. They must understand refrigerant handling procedures, pressure testing, leak detection, and system optimization while complying with environmental legislation and workplace safety requirements.
Red Seal–certified Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Technicians demonstrate nationally recognized competence in refrigeration and HVAC theory and trade practices. The Red Seal endorsement supports labour mobility across Canada and reflects a high level of technical expertise, regulatory awareness, and readiness to meet national occupational standards in the refrigeration and air conditioning trade.
